| Isabel
Smith (ScM Developmental Psychology, Brown University, 1982;
PhD Clinical Psychology, Dalhousie University, 1996) is a Clinical
Child Psychologist with research and clinical interests in autistic
spectrum disorders. She is an Assistant Professor in the Departments
of Pediatrics and Psychology at Dalhousie University, and is affiliated
with the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. Dr. Smith is involved in undergraduate
and graduate student research supervision in the Dalhousie Department
of Psychology. Her research interests include the development of perceptual-motor
and cognitive functions, with a particular focus on understanding
impaired imitation skills in autism. Other interests include early
identification and community-based screening for developmental disorders,
epidemiology, parent and public education. Her current research projects
are funded by The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation, Human Resources
Development Canada, the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation, and
the IWK Health Centre.
