Genetics of Autism Studies

There are three studies designed to search for genes that make a person susceptible to developing Autism Spectrum Disorders. The genetic basis for ASD is very complicated,  and therefore this research depends on having as many families as possible take part.. The results of the research could lead to improved and earlier diagnosis and more effective treatments.

The child with ASD will take part in assessments of language, cognitive, and behavior that may take between 2 and 5 hours. The tests do not have to be done at the same time. We make every effort to fit testing into your schedule.  All of the children, their parents, and grandparents (if possible) will have a blood or saliva sample taken. Parents and an unaffected sibling may be asked to do a language test. Parents will be asked to complete questionnaires and interviews.

Participants being recruited: Children with a diagnosis of ASD or families with two or more individuals with ASD – siblings, cousins or other extended family members.
